"Early Morning in Taito Ward, Tokyo" Canvas Print - 16"x32″

About the Art:

I took this photograph during my first trip to Tokyo in December 2024. It was very early in the morning, before the city fully woke up.

There’s a particular kind of quiet there at dawn. The air was cool and soft. Even in one of the largest cities in the world, moments like these felt so quiet and seemed to stretch on forever.

When I turned the corner and saw this lime green residence with a matching lime green car tucked into the garage (!!!) I stopped immediately. Lime has always been one of my favorite colors, and seeing it glowing gently against the muted winter light brought me so much joy. 

What drew me in even more were the details: the potted plants lined up outside, the narrow streets, and the large circular safety mirror mounted at the corner, a familiar sight throughout Japan, allowing drivers and pedestrians to see what’s around the bend.

There’s something about the combination of precision and tenderness in this scene. Urban density, but personal care. Visible signs of life even in the empty street.

This photograph captures a quiet intersection with feelings of discovery, stillness, and the small joy of finding beauty where you didn’t expect it. A reminder that even in unfamiliar places, you can feel at home!
